History Of Panerai Watches

Giovanni Panerai founded Panerai in 1860 under the name OfficinePanerai in Florence, Italy. At that time, it served as a watchmaking school. Later in 1900, under the guidance of Guido Panerai, grandson of Giovanni, the company started creating timepieces for the Royal Italian Navy, featuring large dials with luminescent markings and a unique crown-protecting device. By 1970, the company no longer provided watches to the Italian Marina Military and started offering watches to the general citizens.

Under the supervision of Dino Zei, the first non-Panerai to lead the company, the brand achieved great success by directing the focus to aerospace, dive tools and other radio equipment. However, it was in 1993 that Panerai delivered its first branded customer watches. Since then, there’s no turning back, and Panerai has established itself as a luxury watch brand, creating watches synonymous with sophistication and prestige.
